Auditor-Treasurer

Services & Responsibilities

The duties of the County Auditor/Treasurer vary from county to county, depending upon the decisions of the county board.  Duties that county auditors perform are outlined in Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 384.  Duties that county treasurers perform are outlined in Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 385.  Like Nobles County, many counties have a combined auditor-treasurer office.

The Auditor/Treasurer is the county’s property tax administrator, chief election official at the county level, a member, by statute, of the County Board of Equalization and the county canvassing board.

Cash Management

The office invests all surplus county funds, maintains and monitors the county’s investment portfolio and all county bank accounts.

Property Taxes, Values & Rates

The office handles property tax administration which includes calculation of property taxes, collection and monitoring of current and delinquent real estate tax records, escrow management, settlement of tax receipts to taxing entities, forfeited land proceedings and all special assessments.

Voter Registration & Elections

Duties of the chief election officer include candidate filing, voter registration, ballot preparation, roster generation, training of election judges and clerks, maintenance of the State Voter Registration System, election reporting to the secretary of state and review for the Canvassing Board.

County Drainage System

The Auditor/Treasurer and Ditch Coordinator are liaisons between the benefited property owners on official county drainage ditches and the County Board.

County Licensing

The office offers the following licenses:

Motor Vehicle/License Center

Tab renewals, title transfers, Driver’s Licenses, ID Cards and Disability Parking Certificates are processed in the Motor Vehicle/License Center at the Nobles County Government Center.

Exams and road tests are done with the Minnesota State Exam Station located in Room 111 of the Nobles County Government Center. Schedule all testing appointments at drive.mn.gov
